"Treat your friends as you do your pictures, and place them in their best light."
                                                        - Jennie Jerome Churchill (mother of Winston Churchill)
From 2000 to 2002, a crew of passionate ravers led by Joel Capra a.ka. Duckee organized parties as benefits for local charitable causes. They called themselves the Unity crew and named nearly all of their gatherings "Imagine." I had the fortune of making it out to most of their events. Please wait for all the images to load.

After a three year hiatus, Unity hooked up with the Skills crew to throw a nostalgic gathering called "Imagine 2000"
in the Regency Center Ballroom, Van Ness Ave, San Francisco - July 30, 2005. This is me dancing with some rave
gear I had stashed away in my closet for the past several years. In the background are Sveta and Isabelle: two awesome
girls I met and hung out with at that party. They are engaged in one of the many deep, long conversations they were having
that night, or maybe they were just trying to avoid me!!! Hey, if either of you are out there, gimme a holla. I miss you girls!!

The note above was written by Amanda (the girl getting tossed on the trampoline) because she
was jealous that I had a hold of stuff she couldn't get during that summer. These pictures are
from "Camp Unity," which took place about three hours north of the Bay Area - August 2002.
On the top photos, we were doing nitrous oxide in the river. At one point, Joel (co-organizer
of the whole event) jumped in and joined us. That made my entire weekend!!
This "Imagine" gathering - Unity's last benefit party marking a two-year anniversary -
was for a non-profit called Youth Alive and was held at a venue next to the Sears store
on Broadway St in Oakland. Unity founder Joel Capra a.k.a. Duckee is pictured with his
PLURistic smile :) He and Dennis a.k.a DJ Impulse played that year's club hit (Heaven
by DJ Sammy) as their last song. Standing next to them behind the DJ speaker, why
did I look so sterile? Well, I was coming down big-time from an overwhelming kandy flip!!

No, this party was not called "Imagine." It was actually called "Wonderland" and was
their 1.5 year anniversary celebration. It was held at a small studio/loft in ghetto-ass East
Oakland, about five stories up in a factory/warehouse complex of some sort. In fact, I think it
was where Joel lived (Joel was the head organizer of "Imagine"). Each person in this photo is
someone I met in DanceSafe. I'll always remember this party as the one where I did e and nitrous
together for the first time. Every breath was like a long journey of its own - early January 2002
Me and friends (mostly
DanceSafe
co-volunteers) at the one-year anniversary
celebration which took place at San Francisco City Hall - June 29, 2001.
