1999 still remains the most memorable year of my youth, primarily and ultimately because of my brief but overwhelming exposure to the last remaining days of rave culture in its most self-liberating and colorful form. The photos on this page are from events at the Oakland International Trade[Rave] Center just behind the Home Base store on Hegenberger Rd in East Oakland. Local authorities stopped issuing permits for raves at this and other warehouse venues after 1999, and the Rave Center burned down due to allegedly unknown causes in October of 2005. September 18, 1999 at the second-to-last "Quest." Every rave was like a Halloween celebration back in those days!!


June 19, 1999...Sun coming up at the end of "Splendor Blendor," one of the many massive gatherings
hosted by Feel Good Entertainment. I wore black to a lot of parties cuz I wanted to try the whole
gothic raver thing, a.k.a graver style. But I always had more fun going out as a colorful kandy kid!!!
